Director and screenwriter Simon Cox joins us to talk how he made his epic sci-fi passion project Invasion of Planet Earth with very little money and managed to get a cinema release!

Simon sits down with Giles Alderson to talk about his journey as an director, his first film Driven, how that nearly broke him, how to deal with disappointments in film-making and what he learnt from that experience.

Simon goes into detail about how he learnt as an editor on kids TV and how he made his first short film through to his passion fro sci-f and wanting to write a film he believed in.

How with Invasion Planet Earth he managed to crowdfund most of the movie and also persuade 900! extras to hi set through social media!

They talk about depression in film-making and how you have to pick yourself up and why you have to enjoy the journey and Giles explains why this is his last podcast for a month!

How to Make a Cross-Genre Supernatural Thriller Indie Film with David Tarleton director of HUNTER with Giles Alderson

This weeks guest is the writer, director, producer and editor David Tarleton who sits down with Giles Alderson to talk how he made his indie film Hunter.

We chat how to make a cross-genre film, dealing with investors, casting appropriate actors, working with them on set, allowing them to bring things to the table and should we call this a vampire film?

How he shot in RAW and came up with a unique look for a film in the grade. We discuss the trick to maintaining and building tension by restricting the audience to a single character viewpoint and withholding info to build suspense and should you call your film a vampire movie when their are vampires in it?

An award-winning producer, director and editor, David holds an M.F.A. in Cinema Television from the University of Southern California, studied filmmaking at New York University, acting at Northwestern University, and has a Bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Virginia.

David has created programs for Sony Pictures, The Muppets, Syfy Channel, Walt Disney Pictures, 3Net, Fox, Comedy Central, Disney Channel, Tokyopop, Mattel, Universal, Warner Brothers, Baby Einstein, Showtime and more.

David is a producer and a director of the new 3D television series “Dark Secrets,” on cable channel 3Net. He is executive producer, director and editor of the award-winning new media comedy series “Dorkumentary,” starring Adria Dawn, and was editor of the Webby Award-winning Muppets series “Statler and Waldorf From The Balcony,” for Disney. His breakthrough film as producer/director/editor, the gothic fairy-tale “Dinner,” premiered at Slamdance, played on the SyFy Channel, and was released on DVD.

David produced and edited the award-winning feature documentary “What Babies Want,” narrated by Noah Wyle, and its follow-up “Reducing Infant Mortality.” He produced and edited “The Making of Warriors of Heaven and Earth,” and “The Making of Double Vision,” for Sony Pictures. He was also a producer, DP and editor on the pilot for “Dark Secrets,” and senior editor for “The Pat Kilbane Show” for Comedy Central. How to Produce and Direct indie films with Stéphanie Joalland & Sean McConville with Giles Alderson and Chrstian James

Joining Giles Alderson (The Dare) and Christian James (Fanged Up) this week are film-making duo Stéphanie Joalland & Sean McConville from Frenzy films who discuss how they make their films. From writing, raising finance and getting them seen.

Stéphanie Joalland grew up in a small town in Brittany, France. She moved to America to study producing, directing and screenwriting at UCLA where she graduated in 2008. After writing, co-producing and directing her first feature film THE QUIET HOUR, Stéphanie is now developing her next projects as a writer/director: THE SEEDLING and ICE. Stéphanie is an alumna of Berlinale Talents and IFP Emerging Narrative in New York.

Sean McConville began his career as a Special Effects technician on big budget studio films, including STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE, MORTAL KOMBAT, and James Bond movies GOLDENEYE and TOMORROW NEVER DIES. Sean has a Master of Arts Degree in Screenwriting from the London College of Communications. After graduating LCC Sean moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA, and graduated in 2004.
