Ep 87 How to Make a feature in Six Days from a short with Director & Screenwriter Nicole Albarelli of ‘ToDream’, DoP Andrew Rodger and Giles Alderson

This week we chat to screenwriter and director Nicole Albarelli who’s film to Dream is released today 18th December about how she made the film in six days,

Making a short film first but loosing her cinematographer and 1stAD the day before shooting and bringing in our host and DoP Andrew Rodger at the last minute.

How she turned her 60 minutes short into a feature. Going to festivals, winning awards and then getting picked up by a distributor in Texas who wanted to release the film as a feature so they shot an extra day. Meaning they had made a feature film in 7 days in total. Shooting six or seven scenes a day in many locations made it a tough but very rewarding shoot

We discuss working with actors and giving them a background and having them on set in character all the time. Intimacy on set and blocking the actors so they could maximise on the natural light

working with Adam Deacon during his issues off set and how the lighting and the set design can bring something spectacular to something bleak.

Ep 86 How to make an indie horror Sci-Fi with Await Further Instructions director Johnny Kevorkian and producer Jack Tarling

This week Giles Alderson (The Dare) and Christian James (Fanged Up) chat to  director Johnny Kevorkian (The Disappeared) & producer (God’s Own Country) Jack Tarling about creating creatures, reversing footage and camera tricks, marketing your film, keeping audiences engaged when the movie is set in one location and their new sci-fi horror Await Further Instructions.

Johnny Kevorkian, shooting anything he could, and later refining his craft studying film at University. After making a series of ambitious shorts, he directed, cowrote and co-produced his debut Horror feature ‘The Disappeared’ which won him awards and critical acclaim.

Jack Tarling has produced BAFTA nominated God’s Own Country, London’s Finest and Await Further Instructions. He runs Shudder Films

Await Further Instructions:  It’s Christmas Day and the Milgram family wake to find a mysterious black substance surrounding their house. Something monumental is clearly happening right outside their door, but what exactly – an industrial accident, a terrorist attack, nuclear war? Descending into terrified arguments, they turn on the television, desperate for any information. On screen a message glows ominously:’Stay Indoors and Await Further Instructions’. As the television exerts an evermore sinister grip, their paranoia escalates into bloody carnage.
