How he went from a Club Rep in Cyprus to becoming a Filmmaker and how he started with no real knowledge of cameras or production.
How he self taught himself film-making and learnt to edit and understand VFX and graphics because he has no choice.
How he didn’t want to make a short but a feature first and how he raised finance using his background in selling to secure investment .
for his first feature – Pandorica, shot at night in outdoor locations – high sensitivity camera used, in combination with DIY space lights to shoot a post-apocalyptic forest setting.

How he pushed on after his first feature onto his second feature – Redwood, which was a bigger budget, vampire film set in eastern Europe and the lessons he learnt from first feature he carried over to second feature.

His third film Black Site, out later this year, is a back to his roots, lower budget, exploitation John Carpenter-esque horror thriller.

We discuss what actors look for in a director – and vice versa and producing your own work – and find good collaborators.
We discuss his fourth film – Stairs and his 5th feature G-Lock which are both now in post

And we delve into his screenwriting process – from script to shoot

PLUS loads of advice for filmmakers new and old

How to Make a Period Drama Feature with James Kent director of ‘The Aftermath’ starring Keira Knightley and Alexander Skarsgard

Giles Alderson (The Dare) sits down with Film and TV director James Kent to chat his feature films Testament of Youth and The Aftermath

We start by talking about DirectorsUK and how important and useful it is to filmmakers https://directors.uk.com/

How the freedom in Documentary film-making that you can use in feature film or TV work as a director and when your in edit suite it is just you and the editor and you need to have got your coverage and material on set. With docs there is not often a story until you are in the edit

Making the leap from docs to TV and features. Working with actors. Respecting them. Working with young up and coming acting talent. And moving into directing features and how important rehearsal time is.

Making period drama The Aftermath. And how the actors have transformed into something else when in costume. A different character and they can come with preconceived ideas. Rehearsal can help over come this. And he gives some great Directing tips to work with actors on set.

Working with Will Smith on a Documentary. And watching Darren Aronofsky working was a education.

And shooting AMERICAN TV and the difference between U.K. TV.

Working with A list stars on The Aftermath with Keira Knightley, Jason Clarke and Alexander Skarsgard and feeling intimidated and shooting sex scenes

We chat Mother Father Son starring Billy Howle and Richard Gere which is OUT NOW on BBC

How to make a road trip indie comedy feature with Eaten by Lions director and co-writer Jason Wingard with Giles Alderson

Jason Wingard sits down for a chat with Giles Alderson about his latest feature film Eaten by Lions.

He chats going from shorts and winning short film festivals like Virgin Media shorts and making more films from the prize money.

Then went onto make his debut feature In Another Life set in the Calais jungle while he waited for his other feature to happen . During this time he went out and learnt how to raise money and how to make a film from the ground up.

We discuss how he used his writing / directing fee from Eaten by Lions to finance his debut feature In Another Life. How he shots in the Calais jungle and recreated a set in Warrington to match. We discuss how it’s a privilege to make a film but you have to make sure your script is good enough and pay for script analysis to make it so.

How you should understand the finance process and how investors can make their money back. Having a one pager as well as full pack for your project and that the best people in the film industry have nothing to prove

How to make a road trip movie and working with actors on set and good techniques to do this .
